About
The Iowa Federation of College Republicans is the premier youth-based political organization in the state of Iowa. With thousands of members spread across 25 chapters, the College Republicans serve as one of the major forces each year in helping elect Republicans to office. The organization also produces many future leaders; former Iowa Governor Terry Branstad once served as a chapter chair at the University of Iowa, and on a national level, Karl Rove was once the chairman of the College Republican National Committee.
In addition to a top notch grassroots effort in assisting Republican campaigns, College Republicans focus on education, leadership, and networking opportunities. During the 2009-2010 school year, a major focus was put on leadership training, with three regional leadership training sessions with a number of great guest speakers and a focus on recruitment, retention, fundraising, internships and effective leadership. Last summer, a midwestern leadership training camp out was hosted by IFCR in a partnership with the College Republicans in Wisconsin, Missouri and Indiana. The camp out was held at Maquoketa Caves and provided not only a chance to learn about leadership, but to share ideas around a camp fire and while exploring the caves.
Between the annual spring convention, the annual Troop Care Package Christmas Party, animal rights BBQs, the annual Cy-Hawk CR touch football game, pizza parties, carnivals, dunk tanks, meeting with legislators at the capitol, and opportunities to travel to national events in locations such as Washington D.C., Orlando, and Las Vegas, there is no shortage of opportunities to meet new people and have fun in the College Republican organization.
